Diffusion is just a broader term than osmosis.

Diffusion is the net movement of molecules from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration.

Osmosis is just one kind of diffusion: the diffusion of water across a selectively permeable membrane. Osmosis HAS to be water, and it HAS to be through a membrane.

actually they are both the same, except osmosis is related to plants and water, while diffusion involves any kind of filter and liquid
