I have a 2.5 gallon tank with 3 feeder guppies that I keep as pets and two small comet goldfish. I've heard that goldfish need at least 20 gallons for each one you have. They are small now and fit the tank but should I get rid of one or both of them? I'm already quite attached to one of them and the other one I dont particularly like *I think he is trying to eat the guppies* I'm thinking about getting rid of one so it wont be so crowded when all the fish get bigger but then I think, wont it get lonely? I need advise. Get rid of one or both?

I'm afraid you'll have to get rid of both, and frankly, the guppies also.
Comet goldfish need way more than 20 gallons each. Comets can grow to 1.5 feet long, and they are POND fish, not aquarium fish. They need something like 50-100 gallons each.
Fancy goldfish are smaller, 7-8", and those need 15-20 gallons pre fish.

As for the guppies, a 2.5 gallon tank is just plain too small. Guppies like to swim around, and a healthy guppy can grow to 2" or more. They need swimming room. A minimum of 8 gallons is required to keep a group of guppies.

I think you should invest in a bigger tank, maybe 10-15 gallons. I'm sure you could get a used kit or one on sale from walmart for 20-40$, and you could keep your guppies and get a few other small fish, and they would all be happy and healthy. You would still not be able to keep your comets, though.

Comets need the 20 gallons when babies, when they start growing they really need a pond so if you can't give them that then you must get rid of them, unless you don't care that they will become stunted and eventually die from it. The 3 feeder guppies shouldn't be in there either and if you have both a male and a female you will have a lot more then 3 soon. If you still want something in that tank then think about a betta but please do some research on how to take care of one before you just go out and buy one.

And BTW goldfish do need a lot of space, unlike what the person above me says. Comets can grow up to 18 inches but if kept in something too small they will stunt, their bodies stop growing but their insides don't, they also need the room to swim and move around. If kept properly they can live for more then 20 years but because a lot of people think they can live in bowls and little tanks without filters they usually die as stunted babies.
And while female bettas can live together 2.5 gallons is way too small, most people suggest nothing smaller then 10 gallons but 20 is even better.

keep your pets. if they look really cramped you could talk about getting a larger tank with your parents -- there are many advantages to a larger tank -- they are easier to keep and clean for example -- maybe 20 gallon or something more practial than 40 gallon and honestly that would be fine for some goldfish as long as you keep it clean you could get a couple more in there. goldfish dont' need a lot of space -- they just need a lot of cleaning up after. so if you can keep up the cleaning then they are good. in your 2 1/2 gallon i would suggest 3 female bettas with lots (3 that reach the top of the water and 3 smaller ones) of silk aquarium plants. nobody ever thinks of female bettas and they are really quite pretty and live together well. they don't go well with other fish though. in general guppies go well with other guppies and goldfish go well with other goldfish. i don't know if goldfish get lonely. i have 3 small ones in a 5 gallon and two are great friends but the other is kind of a loner. i do 50% water changes every 5-7 days to keep them clean.

2.sixty 5 gallon is your project. that's nonetheless too small for any length of goldfish. because of the fact of their weight-help plan (extra plant count number = extra fibre = extra fishy poop) they produce extra waste than your avarage puppy fish. i'm beneficial you have been advised that they might desire to be in a 30-40 gallon tank, minimum. you elect extra water to dilute the ammonia they produce. right here is what i might do in case you won't be in a position to get a 30-40 gallon tank mind-blowing now: * get a 10 gallon rubbermaid container * and a heavy accountability filter out circulate the fish to the non everlasting tub, alongside with the hot and the previous filter out. Do a fish in cycle. attempt the water on an popular basis, shop the ammonia under 1ppm with partial water ameliorations as mandatory (may be a pair of times on an popular basis). you do not choose chemical ingredients to repair the ph or something. notwithstanding if Tetra risk-free initiate reported to help in leap-beginning the cycle. once you get the 30-40 gallon tank, circulate the fish alongside with the cycled filter out textile.

Yeah, get rid of all of them and get a betta for a tank that small.

Or go get a 29 gallon and get some fancy fishes. Look on craigslist.com for tanks. probably pick one up cheap with all the trimming included.
