b= -64
c= 1/64
d= 1/64

I THINK IT IS B, BUT IT WAS MARKED WRONG

To the negative third power does not mean to the third power then multiplied by negative one. 4^(-3) is equal to 1/(4^3) so therefore it is 1/64.
the rule is generally that if you have a power to a negative, you just put it 1/# and make the power a positive.
Hope this is helpful.

[In this answer the ^ sign means "raised to the power"]

Don't forget that when you raise a number to a negative power, you have to divide by it!

For example
2 ^ 2 = 4
while
2 ^ (-2) = 1/4

10 ^ 3 = 1000
while
10 ^ (-3) = 1/1000

For your question
4 ^ 3 = 64
but 4 ^ (-3) = 1/64

Just to confuse matters
(-4) ^ 3 = (-1 * 4) ^ 3 = (-1)^3 * 4^3 = -64
which is where I think you made your mistake

(And for a bonus mark, try to work out why (-4) ^ (-3) = - 1/64

The answer is 1/64. (You had C and D as the same answer. I think you meant to have one of them negative? It's whichever one is the positive 1/64.)

This is because with negative exponents, you pretend that it is positive as you do the calculations, but then you put that product under one.

So think of it this way:

4^(-3)

1 / 4^3

1 / 64

I order to get rid of the negative exponent, you put it in the denominator under 1. It might seem a little confusing now, but you should get the hang of it.
I hope I was helpful. Good luck!

A negative power means take the reciprical of the base.

4^(-3) = 1/4^3= 1/4 x 1/4 x 1/4 = 1/64

hope that helps!

when it have the negative power it always turn out 2 be in decimal or 1 over it.
It is like scientific exponent when it have the postive power u move it 2 from left to right
when it is negative u move it from right to left
ex. 10 to the 2rd power which is 1000
10 to the negative 2rd power which is 0.10 or 1/10
ur answer 2 ur question is 1/64 c and d
I think one of the 1/64 maybe is written like -1/64 and make sure u double check

B is the wrong answer! Here's the right answer:
4*-3=
1/64
The reason that is the right answer because for number to be raised to the negative power, that would be the inverse of the number instead of -64.

The correct answer is c:

4^(-3) = 1/(4^3) = 1/64

it's not b. it would be c or d - you put the same answers for those two choices. in any case, four to the negative 3rd power is 1/64.

if a number is to a negative power, it becomes 1/(that-number-to-that-power)

first you have to get rid of the negative power so put 1/4 to the 3rd power. then you get 1/64.

4^-3 = 1/4^3 = 1/64

c and d are the same though...
