With twins what happens is the sperm either fertilizes one egg and the egg splits or two eggs are fertilized. The split egg creates identical twins and the seperate fraternal. So to be technical it is the egg. Of course with two seperate eggs the sperm fertilizes both. The egg would have to do alot of work, but both are definitly involved.

Two sperm getting fertilized successfully???? \.

Well..depends on what kind of twins you are talking about..

Identical twins it is because of the egg, because only one sperm penetrates an egg, then the egg divides into two seperate babies.

Fraternal Twins happens because two different sperm fertilize two different eggs.

1 in 4 fertilized eggs split . because normally splitting occurs because of a flaw the flawed part dies and gets absorbed back in if the flaw isn't severe enough to prevent the embryo from surviving you should get two mostly healthy twins. so either the ovum or the sperm had a flaw when they combine to form the egg. if flawed it ejects the flawed material..

the egg. there is always millions of sperm.. if you release more than one egg they can all be fertilized so if you have two eggs released, you get fraternal twins.. or you can release just one egg. and that egg splits.. then you have identical twins.
