I think that reconstructive surgery is definitely okay.
As for cosmetic surgery, I think that if someone is really unsatisfied with a particular part of their body and it's affecting their self-esteem, then perhaps go for it. However, people should realise cosmetic surgery IS a serious operation and shouldn't use it to fix every part of their body that they are slightly unhappy with.
Life is short. If someone chooses to live life in a way so that they feel better about themselves, I think we should respect that, as long as they don't use cosmetic surgery as a solution for everything. It's a personal decision and we should respect a person's choices in life, even if we don't agree with them.

Of course one would say that reconstructive surgery is a wonderful thing especially if you're the one needing it.I think that aesthetic surgery can be the same thing. Some people have physical issues that are so hurtful for them that they spend their lives in hiding ,feeling bad about themselves and ridiculed by other people.Always drawing attention in a negative way. This is truly a cruel world we live in and people can be pretty nasty . I wouldn't want to live my life that way ... would you? I've seen people enjoy their lives for the first time ever after having such a surgery .... completely coming out and able to be true to the person they are on the inside.I would never stand in judgment to rob them of that happiness. I also think that people can have plastic surgery for the wrong reasons and usually it boils down to the fact that they are already nice looking but something is broken on the inside so they keep trying to patch it up. Often becoming addicted to the wrong solution.I believe this kind of surgery to do more harm then good because they never take the time to heal whats really hurting them and then all of the sudden there is little more any surgery can do .They will be suddenly old and still broken having never learned to love and accept themselves for who they are.

I think if it makes people feel better about themselves and gives them more confidence, then it can only be a good thing. :-)
I do however think cosmetic surgery should be better regulated. Too many vulnerable people are having unnecessary work done upon them - to the extent that it is making them look a bit ridiculous really. You only need to look at the likes of poor old Jocelyne Wildenstein to see how things can go really wrong. http://website.lineone.net/~a1/jocelyne/index.htm
Surgeons should have to tell a person when too much is too much. I think they have a moral obligation to do so. Body dismorphia is a serious condition - and no amount of surgery could ever make those kind of people happy.
[Quote] "There has also been a suggested link between undiagnosed BDD and a higher than average suicide rate among people who have undergone cosmetic surgery."

I would go for a mini face lift when needed. I do not feel there is really anything wrong with having cosmetic surgery if a person would, could afford to have it. I am happy with me but if sagging comes into view around the chin/eye areas, I would go for the mini face lift.

i think people should be happy with the way they are born but if they have something wrong such as a birth mark or had accident that has left them deformed it should be a last resort option not everyone in the world was born with what they wanted but i think it is only brainwashed into our heads from tv and mags

i think of it is fairly useful and friendly for the properly suited motives. not purely to look better, yet to look familiar, maximum fantastically if the will is from amputees. not all and sundry who has attractiveness surgical operation is a movie star, for sure, yet specific components of this technique do not seem fairly spectacular in properly-known veiw. people weren't meant to be suited, in ideas or rely, for that could make maximum living purposeless. i don't approve of specific famed human beings having attractiveness surgical operation, besides the undeniable fact that it is their selection, and money, inspite of the reality that i'm not fairly specific that all of the money exchange into made of their maximum observed occupation. which potential not something, besides the undeniable fact that, as i'm no detective of varieties.

It's not for me to say. I personally wouldn't do it but if someone isn't happy with their appearance and they think surgery will help, more power to them.
