2/3N+N=20. Solve for N. Plug N back into the 2/3N part to get the number of dimes.
The key is that the TOTAL must equal 20. Since you know the relationship between the two, you can use ONE "N" variable.

n=# of nickles
d=# of dimes
n+d = 20 (he has 20 nickels and dimes)
d=(2/3)n (he has 2/3 as many dimes as nickels)
n+(2n/3) = 20 (substitute for d)
5n/3 = 20 (add ~ remember 1 = 3/3)
5n = 60 (multiply each side by 3)
n = 12 (Solve)
d = 8 (20-n = d)
Marvin has 12 nickles and 8 dimes.

Assuming Marvin has x nickels, therefore he has (2/3)x dimes.
x+(2/3)x=20
(5/3)x=20
x=12
He has 12 nickels and 8 dimes.

I did it in my head, so I'm not sure if this is right, but I came up with 12 nickles and 8 dimes.
20=(x)+([2/3]x)
20=[5/3]x
60=5x
x=12
20-12=8
12 is the number of nickles becaue if there are 2/3 as many dimes as nickles, the dimes must be the smaller amount.
It might seem a little confusing if you havn't learned too much algebra yet.
I hope I was helpful. Good luck!

There's plenty of information.
Let
n = number of nickels
d = number of dimes
Given
n + d = 20
d = (2/3)n
Substituting we get
n + (2/3)n = 20
(5/3)n = 20
n = 20(3/5) = 12
d = (2/3)n = (2/3)(12) = 8
He has 12 nickels and 8 dimes.

sounds like a difficulty for calculating territory (or section). you've L for length and W for width so: length equals Width + 2 length circumstances Width equals the realm (Width+2) -which through how is the dimensions- circumstances Witgh equals one hundred and twenty that means that length circumstances Width equals one hundred and twenty that means that the realm is one hundred and twenty not particular what the little ^ signal ability so can not help you with that section... Width = -12 isn't a valid answer because width can not be a negative huge form Width equals 10 yards - that's the valid answer for width (that i think you probably did not get at the same time as fixing the problem) if Width is 10 yards, then length = Width + 2 = 12 yards with the intention to tutor that Width = 10 and Lenght - 12 you want to multiply them and see in the journey that they equivalent one hundred and twenty (the realm that's given above) 10*12=one hundred and twenty - that's the information that length and width were calculated properly. desire i became of help.
