I would like to hear from people that are interested in Paris Hilton's life, and TomKat's, and Brittany Spears'.... I know what the theories are, but they come form people who are not interested, or at least pretend not to be interested.

Because they have nothing interesting in their own lives. The vast majority of celebrities bring no real value to the table. The manner in which they are worshipped as demi-gods in this country speaks to how extraordinarily far the intelligence level of society has dropped. Most of these people have made no positive mark on anyone's life nor have they done anything to capitalize on their influence to make the world a better place. If everyone's priorities were in the right place, it would be the rescue workers and doctors saving lives and teachers molding lives who are showered with the public's adulation, not some rich bimbo who's never worked an honest day in her life and whose most impressive talent to date is posting her sex videos on the internet.

If I ever get my television out of the closet and get Cable service, I shall be able to give you a good answer.

Seriously, I think celebrity worship is just living vicariously. I am a fan of Cher (ok she is bloody hot when not in those odd get-ups). However, I cannot tell you about her life or name but a few of her songs (mostly the oldies) and one of her movies. That is the extent of my "fandom".

You would be surprised to know that I have never heard of TomKat, know Brittany Spears is a pop star but cannot remember what she has done, and the only thing I know about Paris Hilton is that she is a blonde.

However, I can discuss endlessly about society, sociology, philosophy, the Martial Arts, Rromani issues, history, etc.

That is how I choose to spend my "thinkin' time" and where my interests lay.

And seriously... my television IS in the closet and has been for quite some time.

Paris Hilton has a following because Americans are obsessed with money and what the rich are doing. I just got my newest edition of People magazine and it had an article(I did not read it) on "Paris's time in Jail" and what she learned. I am sick to death of hearing about Paris. As long as people covet then Paris will have a following. I am an American by the way.

I have a theory that people really don't have any interest in the celebrities but the media desides who they are going to follow. I think people hate Paris Hilton especially and really don't care about the others but again the media won't put them out of the limelight. The old saying no publicity is bad publicity has come aroung and bit us all between the back pockets.

I'm changing my answer because i saw this quote this morning and i think it explains it perfectly-
Many people lack a spiritual belief system and fill that void with obsessions about celebrities. The celebrities are raised to the rank of gods, and these earthly gods will always fail the expectations the masses have set for them. the cycle runs thusly : adoration turns to obsession, obsession turns to disappointment, and from disappointment its just a short emotional jump to contempt.- Donna Phillips

we like to see gods fall, it makes us feel more human and puts us at ease with our own faults and insecurities.

I can't stand Paris or Britney and I'm not interested to hear things about them. They can't sing, act or dance, they have very little brains and they're drunk most of the time.

Some people are truly star struck, they dream of being famous.

Others just can't help but stare at a train wreck.

It's like watching a train wreck. Horrible but fascinating at the same time. Actually, I don't read anything about her or watch her ever.
