I had a sebaceous cyst removed from my chest in November. Now, two months later, the wound area from the cyst removal is still not healed. I went back twice to get the disolvable stitches removed that did not disolve and also had the wound cauterized twice with silver nitrate to help kill the infection and to heal better. It does not seem to have gotten any better and I am starting to question my doctor. I want to see another doctor about this, but I don't know what type of doctor to see. The doctor that removed the cyst is a general surgeon. I do not know if I should go see another surgeon because there is nothing to do surgery on now and I don't know if I should see a general family doctor because they usually just refer you to another doctor and I don't want to pay a general family doctor just so he can tell me to see another type of doctor. Any suggestions on what type of doctor I should go see? Thanks.

Registered Nurse here; You should see a wound/infection control doctor. Obviously something is amidst here or the wound would have healed. The infection control doctors are amazing. They will run some blood test, also check you for diabetes, since with diabetes wounds frequently have a hard time healing. Thanks for the opportunity to address such an important question. They are the specialist for this type of condition. Your right a General Practitioner would just refer you, cut out the middle guy, go directly to the source, and began healing.

me being an herbal person, Doctors dont always have the best answer!!! Put a hot rag soaked in apple cidar vinegar, and place it on your chest for a while. Keep reheating. IF you feel like going to the health food store, get charcoal pills, and slippery elm bark. Take the contents out the capsules, and place it on a guauze with a little honey. Honey is a natural antiseptic. Place it on there for a day. If it still doesnt respond, cut a potatoe in half (raw) and place it on there, They are Loaded with iodine (natrually of coarse) and it Draws out poisons, infection, anything.. try that and save some money!!! IF it doesn't work I'll reimburse you!!!

In certain cases,a wound not healing is a sign of diabetes.
In any case, just a general physician can take a look at it and see what's up and possibly refer you to a specialist.

You can certainly see another surgeon and get a second opinion. Otherwise a plastic surgeon would be an option as well.

First make sure you're not diabetic. if you haven't done so,
go to the lab and have your blood sugar level checked. if it is too high, go see a diabetologist, show him/her your wound. Otherwise, go see a dermatologist. Good luck.

You need to see a physician who specializes in wound care. I would recommend a internal medicine physician or dermatologist.

Start with a general practitioner. He/She will be able to either provide you with treatment or refer you to another specialist. You can even see your gynocologist if you like. Explain your experience with the general surgeon, and that you'd like to see someone in another firm. Good luck!
