My 11-month old has long since outgrown her portable changing pad that came with the diaper bag. Does a bigger (longer) changing pad exist? If so, could you give me the name, preferably a link to it, and where to buy it? Thanks! :)

They make disposable ones, you can usually find them at Target or WalMart. They are pretty big.

In case of emergency? What type of emergency are you considering? These are all good items to have as long as you can get all this gear to where you need to go. If this is going to be your BOL then I would suggest stockpiling your gear for a long-term situation. I would suggest a good Wall Tent and Stove if long-term. Trip wire? Can be used for setting snares for game IMO. Replace portable stove with a tent stove or a grill for a fire pit. Make sure that you are prepared for this type of situation and can deal with the solitude. You can survive for a long time in the mountains with the proper gear and knowledge. I have spent 1 1/2-3 months at a time in the San Isabel National Forest camping. There is nothing better than going 10-20 miles off into the woods away from E-1 and just being alone with nature.

Go to the pet store and buy those paper "puppy pads". They are papery on one side and have a very thin leak proof plastic on the other.

Pediatricians have these for babies but they are not as big. With a puppy pad, you can fold it up really tiny for easy portability but it opens up nice and big. And if you don't soil it, you can fold it up and reuse it.

These are truly one of the greatest uses for these things ever.

You may want to try a 'bed pad' like the ones I use here for the old woman I take care of. They are plastic on one side, and flannel on the other, with a batting in the middle. These are about 3' by 3', machine washable, and you can buy them at Walmart!

I have a large changing pad from Snap-ez and it's big (to make sure, you can check out the web site for measurements), portable and waterproof. When folded, it's very compact and I love the print on mine.

I have one from Safety 1st but I don't think they sell it anymore as they don't have it on their website.

It is quite long, though a little narrow. It has two fold out mesh pockets one to hold a wipe container and one for diapers. It pad then wraps around these a few times and velcros closed.

If you want to e-mail me your e-mail address I will send you a pick and you can bug Safety 1st.

You could always use old blankets or beach towels. Women did that for years before changing pads were invented. Just wash them if they are dirty.

I used receiving blankets.
You can lay them anywhere, use them for other things if needed & toss 'em in the wash.
