I totally agree. The problem with American Idol is that, at least for the few episodes, they like to focus on the bad singers than the good. You have to remember that not all of them audition for Randy, Paula and Simon, (there are others who do preliminary screening). They purposely let these bad people in to be ridiculed by the judges, which I think is horrible (I'm pretty sure they didn't let the horrible ones in because they had a shot). But it's hard to stop it when America loves to watch people embarassing themselves, and even worse, others to make fun of these people.

I agree 100% that calling that person a bush baby was going way way too far. I don't mind the judges being harsh to someone who is very selfish and stuff like that, but being harsh and mean to someone so selfless as that kind man seen on the American Idol Seattle show was just so frustrating. Simon Cowell went over the line, and even Paula and Randy were mean to him. Paula might have cheered on him when he was in the room, but as soon as he left she exploded in laughter. I think it's time for Simon Cowell to either grow a heart or get a new job.

It's all for ratings, pure and simple. I do agree with you that the personal attacks were a bit over the top, but truthfully the friends or loved ones of some of these people should have been brutally honest in the first place to avoid thier child or friend to have to face humiliation on national television. I am a die-hard fan of the show and this season has started out on a sour note in my opinion. I wish they would focus more on the better singers that got through versus spending so much time on the really bad ones. Minneapolis was pretty bad, but Seattle was a complete catastrophe, lol. I know it makes for good entertainment, but those comments were uncalled for and shouldn't have been aired....just my 2 cents :)

My guess is that they didn't spike the judges' lattes. (Seattle, land of Starbucks, remember?)
Seriously, there are two factors here. One, a lot of good performers don't bother with American Idol, and here in the Pacific Northwest we do have a pretty fair musical tradition (Bing Crosby, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain and the garage band movement) to rely upon. Two, the judges have become caricatures of themselves, especially Simon Cowell. Let's face it, I think more people watch the show to hear his insults than to hear the performers, else why those "worst of" episodes? And Cowell often shades more toward insult than criticism.
It was indeed a motley crew that turned up in Seattle. But in the end, most of the finalists are going to prove equally disappointing, and the best ones will likely get voted off early, as happened in the third season (a big reason why I don't watch any more).

The 3 judges have a hard job and the people who come out to audition without any talent, makes it that much harder. I thought it was funny when Simon told the one contestant that he looked like a jungle creature. Most of the people who were on last night, sounded like they were in pain and getting ready to kick the bucket! I feel Paula, Simon and Randy are preparing them for the Real World by being upfront and honest with them. If they can't handle the truth, then they should find something else that suits them better.

These people ALL sign a contract before going in there. They go through a pre screening process and they put the bad people through ON PURPOSE.
These people were all craving attention and some of them needed the wake up call. They got the attention... but not the kind they were looking for.
So seeing as how the contestants KNOW what they are getting into then NO I don't think it was too harsh.

Simon was a little harsh, making fun of that guy because his eyes were big, but I would get really tired of listening to horrible singers all day too, and besides I don't see how so many people think they can sing when they're horrible

Maybe they were harsh, but they had a reason. Those people really were not good singers. Anybody would be crazy to think that they deserve to win American Idol. You do have a point, though.

yes they were mean and yes they need a life. but think of it this way, they have to sit there all day and listen to people say the can sing and then have them come up there and screech like monkeys. i think half their anger is dissapointment. many times in the show they say "i really wanted it to be good but it wasnt". another reason they're so mean is becuz of thier stress. they've gone mad from "singing" thier whole lives and other peeps r'nt making it any better. and the other reason is cuz they're pretty much PAYED to act like that. the meaner they act, the more money they get. that explains y they get meaner every season cuz money becomes more popular over time.
and i'm just gonna get all "whoo"-ish now cuz i'm majorly pissed at randy for destroying that vocal teacher! that was wrong and he didnt need to do that. i'm gonna agree w/ simon, some vocal teacher must have abused him for him to just go off like that. and whats up w/ randy laughing in EVERYONES audition!??!?! that is disrespectful! i almost flew there so i could beat him up (though they probably would have sent those 15 body guards on me. too many body guards. simons the only one who needs them anyway). anyway, while i'm over beating up randy and fending off body guards, i'm gonna take paula's drink cuz theres some kinda drug in it. but i'm also going to UNLOCK THE LOCKED DOOR! (or put a sign on it). its pissin' me off. stupid door...

i thought that's why we watched to see and hear what they have to say about everybody. it draws the people to watch and see just how low or harsh they can get but no one wants to admit it. they will show a good one every now and then that make the cut which i think some of this so called "live" shows aren't, admit it u know that's why we like it!!!!
