I've performed on stage, and had one comparable audition (for a Broadway show), though I was not insulted. (I don't think I did as well as I could have).
I'm too old for Idol, but no doubt Simon would fix on my appearance regardless of my voice, so I would ignore that (even though it would bother me at first) and pay attention to anything he might have to say about my performance. Criticism, even harsh criticism, is part of the audition game.
Movie critic Gene Shalit once derided Cybill Shepard as being unable to sing, dance or act. Had she let that get to her (and she did resent it), we would not have had "Moonlighting."
Simon Cowell does go for the gratuitous insult. In the end, that reputation will come back and bite him, and no amount of bodyguards will be able to prevent it.

I don't too badly, some musicals in high school and etc...but, there are things I do soooo much better than sing...I don't think I could take it and I would have to give him a good telling off! Sometimes I think what Simon doesn't know could fill many large text books! I wonder though about these people who audition, though...They sure don't let fear and common sense hold them back, do they? Some of them need locked up for their own protection...I wonder if they are delusional or what...they musn't relly think they can sing, can they?

i think i can sing but so does everyone else in this world. its sad cuz u gets lots a peeps on that show who go "everyone tells me i sing good and should be on American idol" and then they sing and sound like total crap and sometimes u just wanna shoot them. (lets use the don't cha girl as an example!) i'm afraid thats whats happening to moi (me). anyway, i could not take the crap from the judges. they scare me... theyre just so big and powerful... i needa build up confidence.

Yes, I can.
Yes, I can.
No, they stunk and people are screened so they maybe a little nerdy but they are not mentally challenged as some have believed.
Actually, I thought that characterization was visually brilliant. I couldn't help but agree when I heard it. I have seen the picture of the monkey he was referring to. That guy did look like him, hairdoo and all.

I can't sing at all. As for the people, what did they think? If they had ever watched the show before, they knew how is was.
