Headaches can be a cause of an imbalance in hormone levels. I would not think that is it in case of a 13 y/o but perhaps puberty is causing it. There are herbal suppliments as well that should help. go to healthquest.peoplesway.com and look at PROTEC. Also PRO MC is a cream for men that balances hormone levels. But most acne is a zinc problem and it has zinc so just a tiny dab can be used by teenagers of either sex to put right on pimples. He should see a doctor. Among other things, it could be allergies or he could be grinding his teeth at night. He would need a medical person to figure it out. In any case, don't let it go on too long without a diagnosis because teens have a lot to do. I'm sure he can't spend time being incapacitated by headaches, poor guy.I wish you the best...

My mother, one of my brothers and I all suffer from migraines. It is a disease that can be inherited. If both parents suffer from migraines, their children have a 75 percent chance of getting them; when only one parent gets migraines, there is a 50 percent chance of a child being afflicted. So, you might want to make sure it really is a migraine he is suffering from and not something more severe. If it turns out to be so, then the reason for the onset does have something to do with his age; most migraine sufferers begin experiencing symptoms around puberty.
Having him take a magnesium supplement will help lessen the attack frequency. Also, keeping a journal that lists what sort of activities he was doing/foods he was eating when the migraine appeared will help determine his migraine triggers.

I would definitely see a doctor so you can rule out anything serious with the brain. Eye strain also causes headaches, so you might have his vision checked. The most imortant thing is making sure that it is nothing serious. The How to Herb Book (page 208) says, "Headaches are caused by many reasons: hypoglycemia, congested colon, stress, spinal maladjustment, illness, mineral or vitamin deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, etc. Many times when you treat a headache you are treating the symptom and not the cause. try to find out what is causing the headache and then remove the cause....People who suffer from migraine headaches are notorious for their poor eating habits. Elimination of sugar, chocolate, refined foods are a must...Some people have found that taking B Vitamins daily prevents.... headaches. Chiropractic care has worked wonders for Migraine and other headaches."
Meanwhile, it is possible to treat the pain by natural means. Here are a few ideas.
***Peppermint Headache Relief
Rub (pure peppermint oil) directly on skin where it hurts. Two of Peppermint's main key constituents are menthol (35%-55%) and flavonoids. Also, new studies show pure Peppermint oil is as good as Tylenol for relieving headaches.

*** A generous helping of Cinnamon on toast (with sugar, of course :)
*** Tea For Migraines:
1 2/3 oz. St. John's Wort
1 oz Valerian
1 oz. Linden Flowers
1/4 oz. Juniper Berries
Use 1 tsp. of the mixture per cup of boiling water. Steep for 10 min, strain and sweeten. This tea helps dilate blood vessels and improve circulation. If your headaches are triggered by weather, drink the tea as the weather is changing. http://www.itsmynature.net/html/Ailments.html
***Headache Relief Herbal Bath
4 Tablespoons Dried Lavender
4 Tablespoons Dried Lemon Balm
2 Tablespoons Dried Peppermint
Make a simple infusion. If you don't have time to make an infusion, just put the herbs in a muslin bag or bath ball and throw in the tub with you. http://www.itsmynature.net/html/Ailments.html
*** Glycerite of Fenugreek and Thyme
***White Willow Bark, Wild Lettuce, Wood Betony, Feverfew, Valerian are effective (The ABC Herbal by Steven H. Horne). Horne suggests massaging capsicum and lobelia extract into the neck and shoulders until the mucles become relaxed and flexible.
We don't have a lot of headaches, so I can't say that these methods are tried and true. I am going to give them a try in the future-especially the Peppermint Oil because I have some on hand. I hope this helps.

I suffer from migraines and the best way to rid of it naturally is a hand message. There is a muscle between your thumb and index finger, you have someone message the hand on the side your migrain is on. You will find the spot tender, rub the spot by pinching it with your other hand if you don't have someone to do it for you. It usually takes about 20 to 30 minutes and you will slowly feel the migrain disappear, keep rubbing the tender spot till the migraine is completely gone.
If that don't work, take a liquid gel Advil and get some sleep.
My son also suffers from migraines and I determined it is do to hyperactive personality. He is now 13 and I've tought him how to meditate. I rarely get them now since I've learn to control my hyperactive tendencies.

Natural Herbal Remedies for Migraines as follows...if taken daily, these will actually help prevent migraines.
Co enzyme Q10 - 150 mg per day
Fever few - 250 mg per day
Fish Oil - 3000 mg per day
I personally use the Fish Oil. I started taking it because I get at least 1 headache a day & at least 1 migrane a week. You take 1 cap. 3 times daily, preferable after you eat. They DO NOT smell or taste fishy. And believe it or not, it has been helping me out. I see a drastic improvement & hve only been taking for a month.

Headaches in children are likely caused by undiagnosed food allergies, typically wheat, eggs and soy. Have him keep a food diary (fitday.com or nutridiary.com) and see if he notices a pattern of headaches coming on after eating certain foods. He needs to document EVERYTHING he eats, including candy, mints, gum, vitamins, etc. You can probably sort this out within a week or two. You might also consider allergy testing.

My son has had migraine headaches since he was small, it started when he was 5 years old...I had a full work up on him and there is nothing neurologically wrong...the doctors thought it might be due to the fact his paternal grandmother and father suffered from them.
You have to get in on the headache as soon as it starts..don't wait to give him something...the longer you wait the least likely the medicine will work. My son is 13 now and this is what we use.
Aleve for the most severe ones (1 tablet)...with Hylands migraine relief tablets (2) more if needed every 4 hours..(a homeopathic remedy) we have tried Head on as well...it does work, for less severe headaches...use it across the forehead and back of neck. I give him peppermint tea for the upset stomach..Yogi Tea..is the brand name.
He carries the Head-on and the Hylands migraine headache relief tablets in his back pack..as school doesn't allow him to carry Motrin or other medicines. This usually helps him out at school till the end of the day and I always carry Aleve with me, just in case so I can give one as soon as I pick him up from school.
My sons migraines seem to be brought on most from loud noise, stress at school..and perfume are big triggers for him..also, soda's containing aspartame..like Dt.Coke..this is an immediate headache trigger for him.
I hope that helps..Take Care.
