At this point, it's definitely the Mavericks. Suns are a close second but they still don't play great defensively. Oh, and the Mavs have beaten them in both meetings this season.

I definitely agree. Their proof is basically their record which is the best in the nba. Now why they are the best? Here's some analyzation on the Mavericks. They have Dirk Nowitzki who is a candidate for MVP and their franchise player. Josh Howard is improving every year and has really become a great defensive player and also has developed a great outside shot. Jason Terry is also a good shooting PG and when hot, is dangerous. They also have a deep bench that have a lot players that are good perimeter defensive players including Deaven George and Greg Buckner. In their frontcourt, they have some decent centers in Desagana Diop who is a great shot blocker and Erik Dampier who is a veteran C who's outstanding at rebounding. They got some young talent in Devin Harris and Maurice Ager still developing. Overall this team is very great and very deep.

Before the season started I predicted that the Mavs would face the Bulls in the finals. I still believe this. Chicago is finally pulling together with Big Ben in the lineup.

As to who the best team is right now. That's an easy one: The Dallas Mavericks. They have the one thing the Suns or Spurs or Heat or Rockets or Lakers don't have. They have a deep and talented bench. And they are staying healthy.

But a true sign of a great team is a team that can win on the road and Dallas by far is the best road team in the NBA. Baring injuries to any of their starters they'll be back in the finals for sure.

And the smartest thing Mark Cubin has done as owner is making Avery Johnson their head coach.

The Mavericks have beaten them both time because they play defense.

Phoenix is going to have an early exit if they think that they can run like wild horses all year and then have something left in the tank come post season. I could see them losing in the second round at this current rate.

Id say the Mavs. Dirk is playing great. along with J. Howard. Dampier is finally getting more aggressive and playing good. They have good depth off the bench with Diop and Stack. And Avery Johnson is a great coach.

Suns by far. U got NBA MVP Steve Nash and thats all you need. To back that up they have a great starting lineup and great players on the bench too.
