If your like, 4'11, then yeah, a size 8 might be fat.. but seriously! I refuse to believe that im fat and im a size 14! i was fat 17lbs ago, but now i think im curvy in a good way. yet you hear the standard fashion definitions as sizes 0-2 thin, 4 average, 6 chubby, 8 fat, above 8 FAT... ok.. if i was a size 8 i'd be a stick figure!!! my shoulders are wider than a size 8 shirt! I believe the smallest healthy size i could be is a 10. and let me tell you... I hate when people put girls down because of their size! I consider you fat when your a size 14 or 16 and insist on wearing a size 8 pants and a size medium shirt so that your fat is squeezed over you pants and your shirt shows fat rolls... thats fat. If you wear clothes that fit you may be a big girl or woman..butnot icky fat. Some of the most beautiful girls i've ever seen were big. My friend sam is about 5'1" and about a size 8 or10 and is by far one of the most beautiful girls i know, but she things shes ugly because of her size.

I consider fat to be related to your muscle tone.

If your flab piles over the top of your jeans, that would be considered fat. But if your body is fairly toned and not umm.. "wobbly", I wouldn't say you were fat.

Some people who wear small sizes have no muscle tone. I saw a petite teen (looked about size 6) wearing a bikini and when she ran into the water it reminded me of wobbling jelly. Except the jelly would've been a MUCH more pleasant sight.

So I think basing your size on your muscle tone is way better.

As if a size 6 could ever be considered chubby by any normal person and a size 8 is nowhere near fat even at 4ft11! Just because the fashion industry has certain standards, don't be sucked in to believing that is the norm.

I'm 5ft2 and a size 8. It annoys me when people say if you are short, you can't be bigger than a certain size. People don't understand that not everyone is built to be stick thin. I have hips bones that are clearly visible and no-one could argue that they are not wide! I will never be a size 4 on my hips and that's fine, because I wouldn't want to be.

Just be happy with how you are. I'm sure you look great!

Take care : )

I have to agree with you on some of this! Muffin tops are quite possibly the grossest thing a girl can do to herself. Strangely enough though, i have just the opposite problem. I was born very petite and can't help it. Yet I do feel as though it is very wrong to stereotype by saying that certain sizes are fat because some people are born with different body shapes. My sister for example is also very tiny, yet she has very wide hips. She can't help it or anything because that is just the way she is. She is gorgeous beyond belief but could never fit into a size 2 even if she starved herself.

Ive never heard anyone say that a size 8 is fat! Thats actually really small. I dont consider myself fat at all and Im a size 12-13. Im a bigger girl i guess but Im not fat.Dont worry about it everyones weight is distributed differently throughout there bodies and everyone carries weight differently so I dont think clothing size matters that much unless yuo ae like a size 15 16 or something..

Because people don't seem to understand that models like Heidi Klum and Giselle Bunchen aren't normal sizes. Real women just aren't 6 feet tall and a size 0. In fact, that's pretty deadly. I think the focus in our media shouldn't be on clothing size or body proportions but on health. The media teaches us to idealize tall super-thin women. But most women aren't tall, and most aren't super thin. That doesn't make us fat, but it also won't get us on the cover of Maxim. It's all about idealizations, standards. The physical standards on women not just in this country, but in many others as well, are ridiculous. A size 8 woman ISN'T fat unless her BMI compared to her height says she is. In which case she'd have to be extremely short. For most women, a size 8 is very healthy, and it SHOULD be portrayed that way in the media. Sadly, it is not. Until it is, we're still going to have a lot of anorexic teenage girls on our hands. So all I can say is thank God for Oprah, Tyra, Toccara, Kate Winslet, Drew Barrymore, America Fererra, Mia and Liz Tyler... THEY are body image role models. Not Nicole Richie, who is about the size of my pinkie.

Good question. Very thought provoking.

Congratulations on being confident.

I'm 5'8" and 175 lbs, about a size 11. As long as I can find clothes that are flattering and don't emphasize my trouble spots, I'd have to agree that my curviness is a good thing.

It's tough not being the smallest girl sometimes, but as long as you feel healthy and happy, don't worry about what you think others are thinking of you. Most people are too busy worrying about what THEY look like to criticize a confident person like yourself!

I've realized very quickly that it's not about size, it's about confidence, and emphasizing the areas of your body that you like. I've been anorexic and slightly overweight and every size in between, and I've had more guys tell me I was attractive when I wasn't extremely skinny. It's about knowing how to dress and knowing what to and not to wear for your particular size. Women can be extremely hateful people and it's very disgusting. I know alot of guys these days that are more likely to flirt with me with curves than my friend who's skinny and not as curvy.

Clothing size is not the issue here. If the fat layer on your body is so thick that there isn't visible muscle tone, you are too fat. You don't want to see bones, but a body look of fluffy fat is icky.
