and given the additional criteria as follows, one world caliber soccer player per season drateed onto each MLS team starting in 2008 , and given 13 teams with 25 players on each team as additional criteria, when would the first year be that the United States national Soccer team partipate in a World Cup Final? (be they winners or Losers of the game) - Thank you.

I think that the US will be strong contenders for the World Cup. Last year was horribly bad, but we can play much better, have played much better. I don't know how much of an impact David Beckham will have besides generating more interest in spectating, but I think we will participate within the next 20 years in a cup final... I also think that alot of people forget, we did not focus on the World Cup as a nation until the late 80's or so, and the development of a strong national team comes out of a strong domestinc league which has only been around for 11 years now.. compared to the European nations having strong domestic leagues for over 100 years in most cases. Shall we forget the defeat of Brazil in 1994 2-1 to win the Nike tournament, we have defeated many of the powerhouses, and now all we need is consistency. Hope that answers your question.

America will never play in the WC finals, unless lighting strikes in a bottle for the national team, because most of America's best athletes play some other sport.

If America's "main/popular" sport were European football then they would probably dominate. But it's not so the competition to be good in America is not there. It's simple really. America cares little for the sport and it shows on the pitch.

The worst thing is that the US just payed DB $250 million. This will only bankrupt the Galaxy. About the only thing Beckham will sale is dresses because he's not gonna sale soccer to the general public. Not with sports like American football, baseball, and basketball dominating the US sports market.

There has been an upsurge in ticket sales since Beckham signed.

But as for the world cup, the US team has a long way to go. Were getting better and developing more talent all the time. But it will be sometime before were a serious world cup winner.

America will make the finals only when it realizes that it is better to keep the best players in the States than to ship them to foreign leagues. It has little to do with Beckham, but Beckham may open the door for quality players playing in MLS.

Probably never. lol. Soccer isn't that big in the U.S. I'll be curious to see what happens when David Beckham comes over here. He is probably the only soccer player who is actually almost a household name here in the U.S. It will definitely bring more attention to the game.

You would pick 2010 because lando, brian Mcbride, Clint Demsepy will be at their peak and might be able to push into those finals but their draws would need to be easy.
You can't pick 2014 because those players will be gone and who would replace them.
