Mutual Fear and hatred are the main reasons for the Arab-Israel conflict. Arabs should understand Jews have a right over the land to live in Israel. Jews also should understand the fear of Arabs, that Jews have come there to usurp their living place. The leaders of both communities should shed their prejudice and sit together to find a peaceful solution. A little bit of give and take will save a lot of lives in this region.

Tracing the roots of the problem, you can go a long way back. However, the more prevalent Palestinian problem goes back to post WWII, when both sides were promised land for statehood, yet only the Jews were granted such property. It's not really their fault, though, as much at it was the international community (United Nations), who kind of put forth the resolution to develop both states and then ran from the problem. However, I would also place a large part of the blame on the Muslims of the region, given that had they accepted the bid for Israel to be established in the first place, then Palestine could have been established as a Muslim state.
At present, I think that Israel cannot take too much of the blame, given that they are a small territory amongst many other territories that hate them. They live in a constant state of terror, and if there were something they could do (within reason) that would satisfy the Muslims and bring about peace, I'd like to think that they would do it. I cannot understand the ferocity of many fundamentalist Muslims of the Middle East, and I will always look negatively upon those who will justify killing of innocents based on the belief that they will ascend to a paradise for their heinous actions.

Big business oil interests. Go green, eliminate the need for oil, and the conflict will stop. It is all about money and nothing more. Read "The Great American Rip Off, Part 1" by the Unknown Attorney and see what really makes the world go around.

Almost entirely the Arab States, who still believe that they have the legal right to make war on Israel and annihilate it, as they tried to do in 1967 (the Six-Day War). They never admitted that it was wrong, and they refuse to promise not to do it again.
That's all it would take from them. "We were wrong", and "We will not attack Israel". But they won't do it. Go figure.

"Both" (there are more than that!) sides have by now committed so many atrocities of varying degrees that it's useless to point fingers. Yet it is an ugly aspect of human nature that we recognize only the wrongs committed by our enemy, and to remember them forever.
