Organize a "Yard Sale" with proceeds to go to a charitable organization. You will be able to get all the student body to clean their closets, volunteer their service (organization of items, running the sale, pricing items, collection of items), choosing a local charity, doing advertising (flyers, local papers may donate an ad)....and many other things. This would cover leadership (if you are the one doing the original plan and overseeing it), service, and character.

You could do a volunteer-a-thon. My school does that, and while it takes a lot of planning it is also a ton of fun. Every teacher and student goes to a place (elementary school, senior centre, humane society, soup kitchen, et cetera) and does 3 or 4 hours of work. We have a BLAST! Plus, it would help with leadership and character to have the girls form/lead subcommittees with administrative oversight, and you can incorporate academics into it. (English: write an essay on the importance of service or a story/poem about how people involved in service feel. Math: if you have x people working y hours at z places, how much service do you do collectively? History: who's done this in the past and how has it shaped our culture? et cetera)

Contact your local Lowe's or Home Depot and ask them where they will be building a playground for elementary students. You could divide yourselves into groups and part of you can help plan/design and develop; others could help determine materials and cost; another group could be in charge of supervising one portion of the plan and you all could work together and build it! You'd have supervision and the know how of the volunteer employees who will work side by side with your group!

It's a great way to help out your community.
