Because there are always a bunch of people watching the finishing line so you have to take off the skates and actually run.

If you can, try to run the last
mile first.
Then after a break, take your place
at the starting line.
Trust me. The fans in the stands will
love it, when you win the ribbon, and
never broke the ribbon.

because you are so freakishly tired by the time you get to the last mile and you just want to lay on the ground and moan and not move another bloody inch!!

For me, its often the first.
When I get going on something, really moving, I'm very motivated to finally finish.
When a goal is distant, sometimes I can't even bring myself to lace up my sneakers.

because at the start you sum up how far you have to go so mentaly you prepare yourself for it, and you never really think that its going to be as hard as it is so the last bit is always a bit of a shock mentaly and physically.
