I used to work in a day-care center, and I noticed one girl that seems to be very advanced for her age..

is it normal for a 12 month old baby to talk in sentences.. such as "I want that." "I want the apple." "Look at that book?" "The book is on top of the table."

?

It's unusual, but yes some babies are that advanced.

Our older daughter was like that. She started talking when she was 9 months old, and I don't think she's stopped since. :)

Our pediatrician says that her verbal skills are extremely well developed, but she's not off the charts or anything.

So good for that little girl, but I wouldn't fuss over it too much.

One thing to know: kids who develop early in one area often lag a little bit in others. For example, our very verbal daughter had incredible fine motor skills and a huge vocabulary, but she didn't walk on her own until she was 15 months. That's normal, too.

Oh, and Cassandra? Both of our daughters have been in daycare since they were 8 weeks old. And they're both developmentally advanced in many ways. So are a few other kids there. Daycare is a fact of life for many people. And it's not about selfishness, or material greed, but a true need to work to support a family. (We support my husband's mother as well as our own family, and we both have to work.) A good daycare is a great place for kids to be. Ours is an in-home, mixed age daycare, and our daughters are developing verbal, emotional, social, and physical skills that they'd never get staying home with just me. If staying home with your kids is what works for you and your family, great. But come down off your high horse, would ya?

It isn't average, but then again, you will prob. find this child has an excellent diet and is kept on a good routine. She prob. feels very secure and her mother took good care of her own body during pregnancy. All these things are VERY unusual.

She's highly verbal - shocking for a day care baby, really. Most are verbally stunted from learning to talk from other babies. Only one of the major damages done by day care to children.
