Does anyone know about Dioramas? We have a very large one of the Flying Cloud "1850" and it is a molded material of some kind. We wanted to know what the material is. I can send you a picture if you need it. The background looks like blackish felt and is somehow formed around the whole ship.

Yeah - will need a picture to at least begin to guess at what the material is :)

Mine would probably look like something Charles Manson would have done back in the 60's after popping acid and polishing off a 5th of Jack Daniels ! Maybe some raw eggs cracked open with some dead chicken fetuses stapled to the bottom ! Maybe you could just do the lobby of a KFC as your diorama !

it is most likely what is called flocking (it is used on t-shirts to make them fuzzy) when you have a shape that is hard to cover and you want it to just be the background that hides uneven textures or shapes you can spray with glue and then dust on flocking in anyone of a 100 colors it gives the look of felt and absorbs light real well so that the things in front of it stand out better with no reflection.
