WORD is a Microsoft word-processing program.

Speaking from 16 years of experience, WordPerfect is much more intuitive and user-friendly. However, because Bill Gates does not work and play well with others, WORD is more compatible when you need to e-mail a file.

They're not entirely compatible, you can open a wordperfect file in word, but it sometimes doesn't always open up exactly like it looked in wordperfect. Things like bullets don't translate well.
Wordperfect is a lot cheaper than Word (or Microsoft Office), and it's not a bad word processing software.
You have to buy Word as part of the Microsoft Office package. It's cheaper if you buy the Student/Teacher version (you get less stuff, but you get the essentials such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint).

Actually, this is an argument against the first answer. The word perfect software is by Corel, and they make it for windows as my uncle uses it and his OS is Windows.. Word is Microsoft and it is in the Office suite. I read where word perfect is compatible with Microsoft office also, amazingly...
