My father-in-law has double vision caused by cataract surguery - they can't find anything causing it, but he sees double - they were able to do something to his eyeglasses (it looks like there are tiny lines across the lens of his one eye) that help him

Could be...try this...hold you right index finger pointed outward against you monitor. Now slowly bring the tip towards your face until you touch the tip of your nose, staring at the tip as you do! How many monitors you got?

even though you have two eyes, they both focus on one thing at a time, therefore, with doublevision, both eyes are not focusing together and you are seeing two separate images of the same thing.
