i was called today to do a small introductory jazz or some other just upbeat creative dance class as an activity for the day, the students are ages 6-10
I have a few ideas that i remember from when i was in my little pre jazz class(funny dance circle where everyone goes into the middle of a circle and does a funny dance, and the attention getter where they switch positions[sit stand zero knees etc] )
I plan to do a small combination with them to high school musicals we're all in this together with some fun movement,
any more ideas for warmups?

You could do some isolations (head, shoulders, ribs, hips). They'll giggle a bit, but they'll also be getting a true intro to jazz dance. I would also do some stretches on the floor, and maybe some walking battements across the floor.

I am a Girl Scout leader for this exact age group.
Just so you know, this age is wonderful and pretty much has fun doing anything together as a group. Giggles and sillyness are very common at any event!
We did an activity in our troop with music. I had the girls listen to some upbeat music (The Twist, Dancing Queen, Dance Like an Egyptian etc...) from all the past several decades, and dance to it.
We also "spelled" our names with our bodies. Have the girls move their arms, legs, hips and booties to shape the letters of their name.
Enjoy teaching the girls, I know they will have a wonderful time and I can just bet you will too!

When I took jazz, everybody loved doing isolations (neck, shoulders,
ribs, and hips). I can also remember doing basic stretches like the
lunge, or touching my toes. Just make sure everything stays upbeat
and entergetic. I enjoyed doing across the floors, especially the jazz walk, leaps, turns, and kicks, because it really got my heart beating.

Isolations are always a fun warm up. Also doing simple movements across the floor (jazz runs, kicks, leaps, etc.)
