If you feel negative all the time, maybe you should look into depression. Ask a doctor and you might get some medication.

Take stock of all the things you have to be thankful for. For instance, a roof over your head, food on the table, hot water, heat, etc. Count your blessings. If you think about it, every negative thought you have can be flipped into a positive one, or at least one that is less depressing. For instance: You might think, my apartment/house is so small. (negative). The positive replacement could be: Yeah, but at least I have a place to hang my hat, a roof over my head. Another example would be, "I don't have someone special in my life." (negative). The positive is: "Thank God I'm not in a bad relationship with someone who's making my life a living hell." Get it?

Hello:
I wanted to jump in and answer this question. Then I really stopped to think about it. I think that like any behavior changes some people have to take baby steps and others have no problem jumping in and going for it. Someone once told me that the way to feel happy, and start thinking positive is to focus on helping others. My friend had breast cancer. Even through her treatments she told me that she was always looking for a way to help someone. That is what kept her going. Try to find something that makes you smile. A funny joke, a cute baby, cartoon, commics you get the idea. Give yourself permission to feel the way that you feel. Don't beat yourself up so because you feel like you are thinking negative thoughts again. Allow yourself to be angry, cry, yell, whatever you have to do to get it out.
I have faced many adversities in my life. I'm disabled, I was abused, I because of that have lots of problems I wish to God I didn't have. It's all in my aditude. A penny has two sides right? Heads and tails. Think of life as this. One side is balanced. Somewhere in between. The other side of life is out of control, people being hard on themselves, feeling guilty for no reason. Hmmmm... I am a good one for that. Please think about what makes you feel happy.
Sorry for being a long-winded poster.
Patti

Tough one! You start by making a list of positives in your life. Then you add to the page the positive things you do for others, yourself and pets. Then you hang this on the wall, closet door or where ever you will come into contact with it on a regular basis. Pin up happy sayings, and then ask yourself "Am I worth changing my outlook?"
"Am I happy this way?" You can go to the library and pick up some books on the subject or look it up online. =o) Good Luck!

My BF has some years on me. Quite a few years ago, he saw a motivational speaker give a talk (heard, really).
This person instructed everyone to get up, say to oneself "I feel TERRIFIC" seven times, and then do it in the mirror a few more.
When people ask you how you are, Say "I feel Terrific."
They respond very well like that, and you start to have a terrific day.
It really starts with that attitude.

Surround yourself with things that you love! Get rid of things and people that are not supportive of you.... they don't deserve your time if they do not give you theirs. Exercise... relax... and smile once in awhile. You would be surprised how much a smile can change your attitude.

Try to look at your current situations differently. For example one of my favorite sayings has alway been "it could be worse" "I have my friends, family, health, and my very little wealth" There is always another view point to life try to find it.

Don't focus too much on yourself. It's not all about you (or me or anyone else). I find my relationship with God gives me purpose and meaning in this crazy world. Find things to be grateful for and be thankful for them. Volunteer.... do stuff for others less fortunate than yourself. Don't compare yourself or your situation too much with others.
