i need to take my chinchilla 600 miles, driving. i know this is alot for him but he is going to a new home and I am taking everything with me but his cage. What would be the best idea to get him there safely and as happy as possible?

make him as comfortable as possible in a travel safe crate! One like a dog crate will work as thats what I used to transport my rabbits. Also remember Chinchillas can get over heated VERY quickly so monitor the temperature in your vehicle at all times and dont aim any heat vents there way! If you drape the crate with a towel it will make them feel more secure in the surroundings and less anxious! Good luck on your move!

Make sure it is in a secure travel environment, where it can't get loose. Make sure it has access to food and water, and try to put in a place where it feels as secure as possible.

You have to remember that you are moving him from his home, and putting him in a strange environment. This can be very uncomfortable for an animal, of any sort.

If you can get a smaller travel cage for him so he feels safe and warm there are many that hold food and water dishes so he can have access to it during the trip. If he has any special attachment to you, it might be a good idea to put him where he can see you so he knows that you are there.

Don't take him out of the cage! Don't let him wander free! This can be bad for you and for him. Imagine if he gets under the brake. I'm sure you know this already but just saying.

If he has any toys that would be great too, to give him his favorite one so he can feel safe.

I'm sure that he will be ok, just keep him safe. And when you finish the trip, give him a treat for being a good chinchilla.

Hope that helps! :-)

12 hours seems way too lengthy for a canines to be in a cage. there's a drugs you may ask your vet for, called acepromazine it truly is a mushy tranquilizer and may also help your puppy to maximum in all probability sleep or a minimum of no longer be so apprehensive, yet nonetheless, the medication gained't very last 12 hours. call the flight organisation and ask what they in many cases do in this example. i'm confident you're not any further the first individual to come back across this project and perchance they could help you.

I have traveled with several of my dogs and I feed him before I leave let him do his business and just take a jug of water. When you stop for gas, just let him drink a tittle water maybe a bite or two of food, mainly water though and wlk it. It will be fine..
