May be the importance should be given more into what is absorbed rather than what is left out .... Between the intake and Effluents is the so called precious thing Body that probably is the tool for liberation ....
may be fear of the animal that's getting killed, the cruelty, the lack of tenderness and kindness of the heart of the Butcher are assimilated in the body functions ... may be that's why if we take a sensus of the criminals that are in jail, the proportion of non - vegetarians and Vegetarians in there is much higher than that in the society ... Some truth is definitely there, that's why Swami Vivekananda said like that ...
That's why perhaps Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba also advocate Vegetarianism, not just vegetarianism but Satvic Food habits .... Probably We are what we eat to a great extent .... It is diificult to associate divinity to non - veg food ... that's why people from all religions, even the ones eating non - veg heavily try moderating their food tastes and habits during certain periods considered Holy or Divine ...
Probably to Divinise the food, when the people of Islam Community do " Halal " before killing an animal, which normally they do not do while plucking some vegetable fruit .... In Non - Veg food there is something that needs extra care to consciously see it as Divine compared to other Vegetarian Foods ....
Even we ourselves can experience a Divine feeling when we stop Non - Veg and shift to Veg for a period ... May be fearlessness, tenderness, kindness and softness of Heart that are innate and natural to us do return to us when changed to a Veg. Diet ....
luv and SAI RAM

You're right... my stomach is not the burial ground for dead animals.
My sceptic tank is... that's why!
But seriously, 2 other people are likely to answer this question very soon. I see a red flower or a child in a squatting pose as best answer.

Don't fool yourself thinking that just because you don't eat meat you don't cause death. All life takes life. Consider the insects that must be destroyed to protect the fields that yield your bread or the machines that must be used to produce enough food for the world to eat, those machines kill small rodents living in the fields.
Your inner divinity sees no separation between you and the meal.

The toilet is the burial ground for dead animals. You eat plants? Well, guess what? They are living things too...Do not judge meat eaters. We need protein.

Quite possibly so.
I have tried going vegetarian a few times. I always feel that my mind is clearer and less sluggish. What Swami Vivekananada said makes sense to me. We are what we eat, right?

Our stomach is not a burial ground for dead animals because the stomach is only the midpoint of the journey for the dead animal through my digestive system.
I like Shakespeare's insight - we fat all animals to fat ourselves and we fat ourselves for worms.
It's the cycle of life and we don't have canine teeth for nothing, you know.
