What happened to the rosy reds?

I believe this is the third time I'm typing this but I'm not even sure if you actually read the answers. Anyway, you have asked questions about your 55 gallon tank with oscars in it, you can just take some filter media or gravel and use that you jump start your cycle in this tank.

I personally like Aquaclear filters, they use foam blocks instead of cartridges and I have never had to replace them yet and I have had the filter for around a year, they do need to be rinsed though just like the cartridges. I'm actually buying a new one as soon as I get to the store. You can get them cheaper if you go to petsmart.com and print out the price and bring it into the store because they will match their online prices for everything.

About guppy breeding, just have a male and female in the tank together and in around 28 days she will have babies. You should really have 2 females for every male though since he can stress the female out if there is just one. I don't like to use breeding traps since it can stress the females out too and can actually cause her to abort the pregnancy so just make sure your tank has some plants for the babies to hide in. you can use the guppies to cycle. any 10 gallon filter is cheap. and undergravel filters work well too. but for breeding i wouldnt get a breeding box. they stress the fish out a lot. just get yourself a lot of artificial plants and maybe a few real java moss and java ferns and 2 males for every female and it will simply just happen every four weeks or so. make sure you get guppies that you think look good

Yes you can use guppies for cycling a tank..but just a few...you don't need to know anything about breeding guppys --they'd breed in a rain puddle if they could....You might just want some floating plants or java moss for the babies to hide in so they don't get eaten...There's a new batch about once a month.

go with a good filter and you will be happier. you can get a decent filter at walmart for under 15 dollars. don't try a undergravel -- they are worthless. i suggest getting one with a biowheel -- it will cost a little more but its worth it.

cycling i think is overrated. you can do the same with a couple fish in the tank and use 3 things -- stress coat, stress zyme, and melafix. stress coat is water conditioner stress zyme puts good bacteria in your tank -- if you start it new the ammonia building stuff doens't have time to grow. melafix is like a tonic for fish. its good stuff and works as an anti-bacterial agent in your water. i think testing is ph is overrated too -- its better to just keep a tank clean -- get a good filter -- feed quality food in pellets not flakes -- do gravel vacuums and 20%-25% water changes weekly or every 5 days if you overstock your tank. got all that? i will aggravate a lot of people but i gave up water testing a long time ago -- it just gets too confusing. oh make sure you put some java fern and java moss in your tank. they are both super easy to grow and you can still add fake plants if you want with them. just tie java fern or java moss to a rock or piece of wood and drop it in -- ghost shrimp are really cheap and help keep the poop levels down too. these are much better ways to have a healthy happy tank than dumping in ph chemicals.

you don't need info on breeding guppies -- you need a tank divider the little guys can escape through. you also need a sponge to go over the filter intake so they don't get ground up in the filter. put in some java moss and they will breed like rabbits. in general breeders recommend one male for two females when breeding. if you are breeding for profit go with QUALITY parents from top breeders. you can buy breeding sets from breeder on the internet. when you get babies there is stuff you put in the water to feed them. its amazingly easy.
