I need help from anyone whos in FFA or a vet or something. I have a suffolk ewe that is about 4 1/2 years old. A couple days ago she started lying in the barn and not getting up? At first she was moaning but that stopped......now she just lies there and wont even get up to eat. I mean she'll eat if you put it in front of her but she wont move. Today i even had to use a seringe to put water in her mouth so she wouldn't get dehidrated. I have given her 6cc of penacilan and some asprin but she still seems lazy. Her back foot is really swollen but doesn't seem to be broken or cut....Does anyone know what could be wrong w/ her.....Im having a vet come see her in a couple days but I want to know if theres anything I can do now....

has she been around a lot of water i mean it's winter so is the ground really muddy cuz it could be foot rot. Is it the actually foot or is it higher up on the hock. Penicillian probably isn't the best for that we use something for cows I forget what it's called but it's probably best to wait on antibiotics from the vet. You might just be helping the bacteria grow resistant to medicine. If the hoof is soft and infected you might have to cut it open and apply iodine for now just squart it on. It's really hard to give advice cuz I don't know how experienced you are and I don't want to give advice that might harm her.

I think you need to get a REALLY good look at that foot! Could be foot rot (the antibiotic will help that, but a good cleaning & topical will help even more) could be she stood on a nail or has a hoof abcess.

try to speed up the vet's response. and do what you can to keep your ewe hydrated.
