The car I am buying has just polished alloy rims, I am used to and really perfer chrome rims. So I want to buy new rims, but not sure what to do with the old ones. Do places that sell rims also buy used rims? Or is ebay my best bet.

It's not likely that you can trade in or sell the rims to the seller of the new ones unless they deal in "Used" rims. Even if they do, unless the original ones are very hard to come by you probably won't get as much for them as you would selling them privately. Ebay is a better choice but the shipping cost might turn off a buyer unless they are desperate or are local enough that they can pick them up from you. An ad in the local paper or even a photo ad at a couple of local stores might work best.

If you know you want different rims, sell the old ones. Once they are off the car, you'll end up ruining them if they are left sitting around. The dealer won't want anything to do with them.

Keep them...so when you decide to sell that car...if you don't modify it...you can have the original rims to stick up there with a set of tires like the ones that came with it...to keep the selling price high..bahabahaha!!
