There were only two King Charles! The first (1600-1649, r1625-1649) was not born to be king: his elder brother died. He was "Charles the Martyr", cultured but proud, filled with a sense of Divine Righteousness. He was also the only English king to be put on trial, sentenced and executed.

His son, Charles II (1630-1685, r 1660-1685) succeeded his father in 1649 but effectively reigned from 1660, England having been under the Protectorate of Oliver Cromwell in the meantime. He was the "Merry Monarch", with a long, curled wig and many mistresses, including Nell Gwyn.

Charles I (19 November 1600 – 30 January 1649) was King of England, Scotland and Ireland from 27 March 1625 until his execution in 1649.

You may want to include not just the problems with parliament but the puritans as well. Charles was trying to reform the church of England to bring it closer back to the catholic church so that would have removed support from the puritans, including Oliver Cromwell (and John Donne), who were protestants. Parliament may have been peeved by his raising of taxes to pay for a war against Scotland to bring it back into the folds of catholicism.
