We are what we are taught. Learning about
Black History, might help you answer your own
question. Some whites started out at the top of
the food chain. Some whites are still there. So, don't
have much to complain about. Most Blacks started
out at the bottom and have been working their way
up the ladder, for several hundred years. So there
are a few who have some things to complain about.
I'm not going to say all, or they. It's a Black and White
question to me. Knowledge is power. We should learn
about each other, the good and the bad. It's the only
way to push through the myths. Racism isn't a
natural thing, it has to be very carefully taught. Why just
accept the preprogramming?...Learn to decide for yourself.
Reserve judgement for those you know personally. Don't go
by what other people are saying. Live and let live. Amen

well i think that was rather rude..
its not african-americans complaining so much..
its just speaking ones voice
and knowing when to stand up for themselves
i dont need anything to prove myself
i just know that in an everyday world
not everyone is treated the same
no matter the color or gender
saying "just put the past behind them"
is easier said than done
once we all become equal
and once we stop hating each other
and once theres peace on earth..
then i will put the past behind me..
so you tell me when thats going to happen?
i am part african-american
and part italian
so i now how it feels
i doubt that answers your question
but no question is dumb
so all questions should be anwered i guess

I am African American, and I am happy to be an American citizen. I do not constantly complain about the discrimination or prejudice I face in my life. Also, one person’s behavior does not describe the behavior of everybody that belongs to his ethnic group (stereotyping). I am a productive citizen that about to get her bachelor degree. What happens in the past is not the struggle that most African American face now. Minorities are sometimes denied the privileges that the dominant culture takes for granted.

Why do so many whites ask questions such as this one ? It seems like you are focused on bringing negativity into the equation. Every race has people that look at life in a positive light and others that don't. There are pessimists and there are optimists, which one are you? I mean, why don't you ask something like "Who is this black man I keep hearing about, Obama, who may be our next president?" Or maybe, you haven't heard of him because you are too busy thinking about negative stuff to know that there are tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of successful black people who are too busy to even think about the trivial stuff that you ponder. Perhaps, you need to broaden your horizons, if all the African- Americans that you know are always complaining. I don't know, maybe it's a personal problem. I hope some day you can look back and realize what a foolish question you posted.

Sometimes complaining is the only way that people know to express themselves. If they don't know any other way, they cannot do anything else. People need to be taught better and different ways to communicate. There are many opportunities in this country if people are willing to work for what they want. I believe there are people of all cultures that feel the need to complain all the time, they just may not know any different. I was taught to have a positive mental attitude and to envision great things happening. Mental imagery is a powerful thing. People need to believe they can be great and they will be.

Racism is still far from being gone. I have personally witnessed this myself and it saddens me. I hope that by the time my daughters are grown racism may be a thing of the past but right now it's not. People still die because the color of their skin, white, black, and all other colors alike. African Americans' may have things much easier now than their ancestors did but they still have to face racism. My job requires me to manage over about 30 people, my assistant is african american and when I'm gone she is the boss. When one of my employees didn't like what she told them to do they called her a monkey and told her to go climb a tree and eat a bananna. I found out about it from another employee that was there when it happened and when I asked my assistant about it she didn't want to get the girl fired. I asked her a simple question, "do you want your children to have to go through what you had to go through last week? When your children are adults do you ever want them to be called monkeys or other racist terms?" Of course her answer was no and I asked her what kind of example she thought she was giving to her children if she didn't stand up for herself in this situation. She didn't want her children to think it was acceptable to be treated like that and eventually she reported the incident.

Racism isn't only something that happens to African Americans, I've been called a cracker in a deragatory manner and I seriously doubt I qualify for an African American only scholarship either but I seriously doubt being called a cracker by an ignorant African American hurt me as bad as it hurts an African American when the N word is thrown at them because of the history of their culture. Remember those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it. African Americans still have to put up with racism and if they don't fight it then so will their children. Things are better for this generation than it was for generations past and as long as the battle against ignorance continues things will get better for future generations as well.

It seems to be just some grudge that they have held. Not all African Americans do that, just the some who's ancestors were in a bad situation. Besides, African Americans don't have a situation in the US, their only real situation is to make a living. We are all treated equal and racism isn't tolerable here. Maybe they just fear that some people (who are racist) will make them feel like there is still segregation between the whites and blacks.

Probably the same reason all of us americans continue to complain about our situation in the United States? I mean, seriously, are any of us really happy? No... we always want more, more, more. That's what keeps us moving forward. So please don't put one group into one category. We all want better!

Then they would have to accept that their situation is their own fault. Every minority group, even third world refugees, that comes into this country are economically ahead of African Americans in about 2 generations.

Not all do. Many are simply another citizen doing their best to live their lives.

Bill Cosby had a lot to say on the subject. Very potent words.
