I coach a H.S. basketball team and the things you want to improve in your game will take time and great effort. Basketball is a sport that you can work on by yourself and improve quickly. For dribbling, you want to keep the ball close to your body and pound it as hard as you can when you are practicing. Work on your crossover dribble by not only changing hands, but keeping your dribble below both knees when making the move. Work on going through your legs, and behind your back. Each time you practice, try pounding the ball harder and being quicker with the ball. And remember, keep your head up while you do these drills. You need to have your sight focused on the court. Good luck.

Well I'm afraid to say but as far as dribbling and shooting, your only going to get better by....dribbling and shooting. Repetition is the only way to improve on that.
as far as defense. It's a skill of keeping your body in front of your opponent. never let him slip past you. Watch your opponent and you will see his weak spot. Like does he favor going to the right more than the left? Does he have trouble dribbling with his left hand more than the right? Whatever his weak side is, maybe you can position your body a little more to his good side. Thus creating more of a challenge for him. If he has trouble going (dribbling right) position your body so that you force him to go right. This puts him in danger of getting the ball stolen.
The key is studying your opponent and learning his weaknesses.

Learn the art of using the glass. The greatest coach ever, John Wooden of UCLA, always had his guys use the backboard. He made them run if they did not use the glass. Making shots off the glass is just a matter of learning angles. It's not hard to improve your field goal percentage, if you're using the glass regularly. Spend extra time going around the key, shooting off the glass shots from various stations around the key.
Second, spend lots of time practicing free throws. It's a lost art. And when you're close-in, using the glass, you'll be fouled a lot so you'll want to be great at free throws.

When you play defense, bend your knees, and have your hands up. Always remember to be quick on defense too. Always hustle. When you shoot, make sure you have a good aim, don't just throw it up in the air. Aim at the hoop, arch it if you want a swoosh, or just aim for the box to bank the shot in. Remember to hustle on offense too. And when you dribble, remember to be quick. If you want to drive, take a quick first step and gain a step on your guarder.
This is weird. It feels like I'm talking to myself. athleticsfan12 giving advice to athleticsfan_2004.

And read a lot about basketball, application on the court will jus come subconciously
