No, it is in direct violation of free speech and the free markets! I wouldn't have such a problem with it if the Democrats would call themselves the anti-Free speech party, but they go under the guise of promoting freedom of speech. Well, the unFairness Doctrine surely suppresses free speech. Ah well, the libs support oppressing Rush's right to speak freely. Can't blame 'em. I'd hate being proven wrong all the time.

Fairness doctrine is about control. It is not needed anymore because the right gets it message out through talk radio, the left has ABC, NBC, CBS (PBS in a large amount) most newspapers and magazines - with the internet and bloggers; we can truely find all the different views. Cable shows like Fox, CNN, and MSNBC are not controlled and the viewers decide who they wish to watch.
