There is nothing hip about not supporting your president. No matter how you feel about him, he represents your country and the majority of the people put him there. This is your country, he is your president, give him the respect his office deserves.

Bashing is simply a political tool made more popular by modern media. Unfortunately it often lacks substance just as the president being bashed lacks substance (or abuses it...)
As far as "Cool" , it was cool to pick on Clinton and the Monica episode as demostrated by popular media both left and right, but to voice concerns over the violation of laws and the systematic repeal of constituional rights is a duty and isn't considered "cool" by my peers (most all right wing and republican). Pointing out certain truths and lies was not cool and I lost advancement opportunities in my career to do so, but it was my patriotic duty to educate people about the damage Bush is doing to our country. I feel by being vocal I am protecting YOUR freedom regardless of your political persuasion.
Telling lies to start a war to kill Americans is by definition treasonous behavior. Telling the truth no matter how painful can NEVER be treason regardless of the situation.
The majority of Americans voted against him, and though he usurped the constituion the first term, and split the vote the second term, it is the Congress that is equally at fault for allowing him Napoleanic powers without just cause.
But from an historical perspective, the news papers in the 1700's and 1800's bashed our presidents much worse than we do today.... Remember the Sedition Act of 1798? Because of the "bashing", Adams outlawed all criticism of the presidency. If left alone, America would soon have become a dictatorship. Lincoln for example was also very despised at the time.
There has been a dumbing down of dissent with the rare exception being the 10 years from 1965 to 1975 where true dissent was voiced.
Nobody bashed Stalin, Mao, or Castro however. This is vital to remember.

Its a part of our freedom of speech. As Americans we have the right to speak out our minds, its not insulting the president as much as it is using self expression which is birthed from free thought. Bush is in the hot seat now before that Clinton was, the reason that it may seem hip is because everything that the president does is, and should be, taken with a fine tooth comb. Granted, some presidents may be easier to bash than other, such an action is not a "Fad" for it has been around for ages, in fact one may even argue that it is in our blood to do it.

I think bashing the President has been hip since the Nixon administration. Presidential-bashing requires knowledge of current events and politics, so it makes the basher sound intelligent and sophisticated. Pop culture makes it even more fashionable - everyone from Chevy Chase to Kanye West to every third video on youtube. Bashing the president at work can also score points, especially if the boss is of a different political party.

I can not speak for anyone else, but I do think that while it may be a fad for some, I think that if you see that things are seriously wrong, in the country, it is every person's duty to speak out! It is easy to blame the president for the ills of this country, because he is the figure head. But, he is partly to blame, because he is in on all the crimes that the "Secret Government" continues to commit against the people of this country, as well as the people of the world!!!

Even Jay Leno makes jokes about ALL presidents. Some are easier to make fun of but Bush is a terific target of humor.
I bet half the people on here are just beiing humorous and would LOVE a president they respected.

I think you present a good question. I think it is not so much " bashing" the president, as it it just plain frustration on the part of over 69% of Americans. He has lied to the public, he is truly inept at making decisions and I think more than anything it is the frustration of his stubbornness.. he simply will not take advice.. he is convinced he is right and be damned with everyone else.
So, no, I don't think it is hip to bash him.. I think those of us who disagree with him and say so are simply frustrated and a little bit scared of what he will get this poor country into next.

There are Boundaries that should not be crossed! To make jokes about the President is an unfortunate fact of television and satire!
To usurp support of the Commander in Chief for Partisan or Anti-American goals is way out of bounds during a period of armed conflict!
Congress authorized the Conflict and commissioned the President to do the dirty job, he needs support not cheap shots and treasonous behavior from citizens of this country!

Yes it's true, always has been, in fact it seems to be hip to bash all the hopefuls for the upcoming elections. It's not a fad however, as fads last only a short time.
You do rule.

Yeah, I think the presidency has always been an easy target no matter how good or bad the guy is at his job. I seem to remember plenty of people bashing Regan, and that was considered popular at the time.
