I'm 35 weeks pregnant and my Doctor hasn't performed a pelvic exam to see if I have dilated or anything of that nature. Is it common not to have this done this far along? I see posts on here all the time from women who aren't as far along as I and know where they are. Should I ask my OB to do this for me if he doesn't at my next visit?

OB Doctors usually hold off on doing a pelvic exam as long as they can because it can actually stimulate labor and they don't want you to do that too soon!!
I was having the same worries with my kids and my doctor simply explained that to me & it made me feel better : ) Hope it does you too!

I get weekly newsletters from www.pregnancyweekly.com
Here's a link to the page they have that tells you what to expect at each appointment. Just select the week (or range of weeks) that you are in from the list on the left side, and it will tell you what you should expect. If the doctor doesn't do these things, just ask him. Tell him you read information about it and was wondering when he usually does them.

My OB began doing pelvic exams at 36 weeks so you'll probably have one at your next appt.

All you have to do is ask your doctor to perform one. I requested one every time I went after I reached my 35 week marker to see if I was dilating or not. If your doctor is not doing one on his/her own just request one. Good luck to you and Congrats

In both of my pregnancies, my doctor only checked when I was 38 weeks.

But then again there was no reason for my Obgyn to think there would be any reason to check sooner.

I did not have any cramping or concerns and everything was going like clock work.

Lots of OBs don't do internal exams unless there's a pressing reason to do so. It's not uncommon at all.

Internal exams can irritate your cervix and introduce bacteria and if there's no compelling reason to do it, and they can get all the information they need externally, they don't.

No worries.

i started having mine at 35 weeks, but every pregnancy is different, i had mine early cause i kept calling and reschedualeing my appointments because the hours my husband would work, so it kind of messed up the routine they wanted to do. but those other people that you say werent as far as you and had it done, maybe they are haveing complications and needed to be checked out. i heard they do them 36+ weeks

they do it earlier for second babies and beyond, because you start earlier - for your first , unless there are suspicions, don't even worry, they may check at 38 weeks, and if you are concerned, just ask, they'll check.

yes, you should. You have the right to know about what is happening to you and you should demand the answer.
