What are some pros and cons for a state to own and pay for a professional sports team?

states should not own teams. It is not the governments place to use tax money(which is forecbly taken from its occupants) to spend on a professional sports team. Neither should a state government fund in any part a new stadium for any sports team.

I cannot see a good reason for a state to own a pro team. Especially if you are talking about the NFL with its salary cap. The NFL has a salary cap so teams are basically on an even playing field. What seperates the good teams from the bad teams seems to be the managements teams that are in place. This brings us back to the government issue... I do not know what state you are from but tell me which state really runs its business efficiantly and puts talented people in place. It seems like it would boil down to politics as usual. Just imagine if there was a transition from one party to another and the management team was totally replaced in any given year. This would not work in the NFL.
