The molar mass is simply the atomic mass expressed in grams. Atoms are too small to measure and work with. So we scale it up to gram size and call it a molar mass.

atomic masses can be added to find molar mass...

example, water (H2O)

H atomic mass = 1.01 (x2 b/c of the formula)
O atomic mass=16.00

H2O's molar mass=1.01 + 1.01 + 16.00 = 18.02 g/mol
