I would definitely go with dietary changes to help relieve the constipation: more fiber, juice, water. It's better for your system all the way around. You will be getting extra nutrients and vitamins that your body needs to support the growing fetus. Plus, you will feel a lot better during the pregnancy if you're eating healthy foods. You also want to get the constipation relieved soon as it increases the risk even further for developing hemorroids which many women get from the added weight of the baby alone.

For immediate relief, take a Dulcolax suppository. They work within 10-15 minutes, per the box but they really do work a lot sooner than that. This was ok'd by my OB when I was pregnant with my twins.

After that, increase your water intake. Every hour drink a glass of water. Keep this a habit - baby needs you to drink a lot of water to aid in their growth! Also, eat "roughage" - apples, spring mix salads, spinach. The more white carbs you eat, the more you'll plug up your system. Keep eating good foods, and not only will your pipes work well, but your BP will stay in check and so will your glucose levels.

Make sure you eat breakfast, cheerios or something similar really help and if you are still constipated try 3 ounces of Milk of Magnesia right before you go to bed.

Keep a diet with high fibers. One of my friends added prune juice to her normal diet, and it helps her a lot. If she doesn't drink it then she gets constipated. So, maybe try a juice that will help.

Drink lots of water and try to include more fiber in your diet. Cereal like Kashi could be incorporated in your diet, dry as a snack...

Ok - this will sound weird, but it works, and it doesn't taste bad at all: Mix half-and-half Sprite and prune juice, then warm it in the microwave just until it's about room temperature. Like I said - it sounds weird, but it was what I was given in the hospital, and it works!

You can take a gentle laxative. I suggest 1tbsp of Milk of Mag ( the dosage is 2tbsp but with that you will crap yourself to death) if its a recurring problem, take some daily benefiber to help keep you regular

You best bet is a high fiber diet. Lettuce, brussel sprouts, broccoli, whole wheat grains, cereal, etc.

Avoid heavy meats and dairy.
