How can I stop my hamster from escaping? It's so annoying to look for him all the time. He uses his mouth to open all the parts of the cage with latches (the tunnel wheel and little space dome). He also puts bedding in his tunnel wheel and dome, and its horrible to clean. What can I do?

Hun I think you need a better cage.. Do you have a small plastic cage? ( the one with tunnels etc*) they can escape in a flash in these, If he's trying to escape he's probley bored. If you dont already have him a running wheel you should deffinantly get him one. They have to take out their energy somewhere. Also get him a running ball be sure to tape the lid shut on the ball though they can escape..They just love running around in this exploring rooms he may take a few times to get used to it though. If you tape the cage dont tape it to where you hamster could eat the tape it could be seriously toxic to him., They have pretty good wire cages at petsmart for around 30 dollars. If your cage is opening that easy then thier is deffinantly a cage problem!
Also you may never be able to stop him from putting his bedding there yeah its hard to clean but its his way of trying to make it comfortable,
good luck

Use twist-ties (like for plastic bags or celery) to tie the doors shut; the wire's hard to gnaw through, but it's still easy to use.
