As an experienced Special Education teacher I find it very inappropriate for Simon Cowell to exploit people who are obviously physically disabled or cognitively challenged. Large eyes can be the result of a disability. Others that he makes fun of or verbally abuses are very clearly low functioning in terms of intelligence.

I completley agree with you, my cousin is mentally disabled, and it makes me feel so mad to see people make fun of him, when i saw simon call a disabled man on the show a "bush baby" it made me feel really sad.

At this point in American Idol everyone on there knows exactly what they are in for. If you notice those he "makes fun of" are featured and given additional songs to sing for collage segments at the end of the show. If they were truely mistreated or felt that Simon was malitiously over the line I doubt they would sing for the additional segment. Most are just happy to be on TV whether it is negative or not. I'm sure some of whom you speak are more intelligent then they appear as well. Half the people tune in to see Simon cut down some of the talent and actually Randy even started on a couple last episode but as more and more seasons come I think more and more of the contestants are staged anyhow - just people trying to get a laugh and be on television.

It is a contest for pop stars. He is telling it like it is. If you are not in the mold of a pop star you shouldn't show up for the audition. Think Ruben Studard. He won the contest and then ended up in the hospital the first time he went on tour. And we all know what happened to Luther Vandross. Music is a tough business and these contestants need to know that going in. Just look at the tabloids and you will see what is coming for all these people. And think to yourself aren't you doing the same thing to Simon right now?

yes, and no argument he's an idiot, but the fact is that a disabled person has almost no chance of winning in that show (people just can't seem to accept a disabled, heck even just fat or short person as an idol) without several million sympathy votes unless the talent was so incredibly brilliant it made people completely ignore the disability, and if that happens and simon still gives a no he really ought to be beaten to pulp.

Simon is an ignorant jerk..I refuse to watch this season because of that comment. I guess you have to be perfect in order to be an American Idol these days. I wish everyone would boycott the show because of that comment. I also saw Paula and Randy laughing right along with his little comment. It makes me furious that it can be overlooked like it has been. I believe that it probably has given it higher ratings which is sad and unbelieveable that we as a nation woulkd stand for such a comment. We should kick his butt right outta america for being such a perfect jerk!

he's strictly what the practice needs. Of the tens of hundreds of human beings at attempt-outs in each and each city, a small share circulate earlier the judges. the lack of ability of expertise for the trainwrecks we see is obviously orchestrated for extra thrilling viewing. He has no hesitation in saying what he thinks and prefer it or not his evaluations are properly grounded interior the song industry. He makes use of his remark like removing a band-help. perchance if he does it mind-blowing that's going to shop them from embarrassing themselves lower back subsequent years. i won't be in a position to assist you to recognize techniques many situations that grew to become away contestants have left establishing auditions with lines like, "i don't choose this, i'm gonna make it". apart from the William Hung novelty (and that truly won't be in a position to be taken TOO heavily), i don't think of a single one has made even a ripple. be chuffed to the terrific option me.
