They'll want a bit of protection in their placement. If you have strong winter winds from the west, put it on the east side of hte house. (If winter isn't bad where you are - it's not an issue.)
They also seem to flourish more exuberantly if they are not if full sun. Part sun is best.
If it's a new young tree - treat as you would any other new planting. If it doesn't rain for a week during the growing season, put a hose on it, so that it's just a small trickle or drip, and let if go for an hour or two. Infrequent, but deep waterings are better than frquent shallow ones. Shallow waterings during dry periods will only train it to grow its roots close to the surface - where the water is.

I am assuming that you are referring to one of the lace leaf varieties. These can be in a large pot for some time or in the ground. They like some sun, but can burn in the hottest sun of the day. They need to be watered well the first couple of years in the ground or often if potted. There is one company that is even making a special fertilizer for maples. In my experience sometime there is some dieback on the tips, I just clean it off after the frosts are over. I have seen some old ones with thick stems that are doing very well with no apparent care, the early years are most critical. They are nice to plant near some contrasing colors like Hinoki cypress and bamboo. Cryptomeria is a nice contrast and so are some pines, large and small ones.

How big is it? If it's still a baby then the same way you would a normal tree - water it, but not too much and transfer it to a bigger pot when it outgrows the one it's in. If it's in the ground already, there's nothing you really need to do - they look after themselves. I have a spectacular one in my backyard and I've never done anything to it. They drop a truckload of leaves though.
