Whenever you are working with negatives like that, you can make the sign the opposite (the opposite of minus is plus) and make the second number the opposite (the opposite of positive is negative).
So the somewhat confusing equation:
(-4) - 2 = ?
Becomes the much easier:
(-4) + (-2) = (-6)
You can do this any time you are adding numbers of opposite polarity. For example,
5 + (-2) becomes 5 - 2
-10 + 6 becomes -10 - (-6)
...and so on and so on.

The answer is -6...Here's a little trick to remember...Picture a time line with the center at "0" the left side of "0" is the negative and the right side of the "0" is positive...Like this:
(negative side)-10__-9__-8__-7__-6__-5__
-4__-3__-2__-1__0__1__2__3__
4__5__6__7__8__9__10(positive side)
Ok so you start off at "-4" and since you're subtracting 2, move over two space from the negative four. So you will get -6! Hope this helps you and not just gives the answer
