Stat, an abbreviation of the Latin statim, a medical term meaning "immediately".

I work in a hospital and stat means immediately, with no hesitation, because the patient is in immediate danger. If the patient does not get what they need "stat" the patient may sometimes suffer something like a stroke, seizure, or death. Sometimes doctors do abuse this, but because at times "stat" may save a persons life I treat each and every "stat" as an immediate emergency, I can't believe any nurse wouldn't!
Hope this helps expain it!!

Stat" in medical parlance is actually not an acronym; it's short for statim, the Latin word for immediately

Becasue they need that, whatever it is, right now and quickly. For a medical thing like you are asking, it is probably a life and death thing and they need it fast.
