Do Western nations view work as more important than love?

Example: we "celebrate" labor and hard work by having a holiday on the first Monday in September, yet Valentine's Day is just another day at the office.

I know that Valentine's Day is heavily marketed now, but doesn't this holiday thing send a message that work is more important than true love?
