WET, where pipes are full of water, and automatic sprinklers open one at a time if they sense heat
DRY, where pipes are full of air under pressure. when a sprinkler operates air comes out, causing a valve to open and let in water. Used if freezing environments.
PREACTION, where pipes are dry or full of air, and a separate detection system causes the pipes to fill with water. After this it acts like a wet pipe system. Used where accidental water damage might be costly.
DELUGE, where pipes are dry and sprinklers are all open. A separate detection system causes water to flow from all sprinklers at once. Used wher fires are expected to grow quickly and fiercely.
WATER SPRAY SYSTEMS, Like a deluge system, but designed to protect special equipment, like propane storage tanks and cooling towers.

The two catagories for SPRINKLER systems are either wet, which means they already have water in the pipes and are usually automatic, or a dry system, which means the pipes are dry and water needs to be supplied to them manually by an outside source.
