It's an archaic form of insult called the cuckold's horns.
Cuckold was the old form of the word cuckoo, a bird which famously leaves its eggs in other birds' nests. The cuckold's horns were supposed to signify that the person's wife was being unfaithful to him.

in da vinci code, he says its actually the sign of some greek god of fertility which was a ram, so when people think they are taking the piss, they are actually saying the person has a robust sperm count lol but hey who believes everything in the da vinci code?
