Yeah for 565, it's a pretty good deal because an Athlon 64 3800+ is the same in performance terms to the Pentium 4 3.8GHz. The salesman was probably right about the extra GB of ram for 100 dollars, you might be able to find cheaper online somewhere if you look. Since it will be running Windows Vista, I think the video card is sort of weak, because Vista is really graphics intensive and with that kind of card, it might be a little slow but it shouldn't be so bad. Well that's just my opinion but for that type of PC for your uses, its pretty good for your money so take it.

Don't sound like a bad deal but you don't say what kind of monitor it comes with.

Since you intend to use it for typing, pics, and simple games, find out what word processing, picture/video, & game software is included. If it doesn't have any good word processing or pic/vid software, then pass it by. Software is your biggest expenditure these days, Better to find a machine that has your software included than to buy the computer on price and then have to buy additional software. Surely you can wait until Jan 30.

But about the Vista upgrade !!! Make sure all the components are certified Vista-ready or don't expect Vista to run on it.

Frankly, I'd wait until you can get a computer shipped with Vista and the right software.

Good Luck

the processor is $160, dvd+rw can cost around $60, 200GB is under $100, it can be $100 for a GB of ram, but that varies on what type of memory you want. That video card is very basic and cheap. This would be a nice fit for you.

The working device - for a computing device like that i could anticipate Vista homestead top classification or purely spectacular sixty 4 bit with a loose improve to homestead windows 7 thrown in - not something much less. The Intel middle i7 is the latest intel processor - lots of storage too. on the latest substitute value, I make that approximately £1300 sterling - it fairly is costly so determine you're growing to be an excellent visual reveal unit (with USB and probably HDMI connectors) and a solid guarantee thrown in.

I would prefer an intel processor to Amd Athalon. It's said to be better and faster.

For your usage that computer sounds just fine. And yes, RAM does tend to go for about $100/GB nowadays, unless you find it on sale at places like Newegg and install it yourself.

If it is for simple use; no intensive like extreme gaming or work pc where it's on 10+ hrs everyday... the specs above are ok.

As long as you don't do photo/video editing much or play the latest PC games it should be just fine...
