We are in the process of having a house built and intend to have a pool. Trouble is we don't know which is the better option, concrete or fibre-glass in terms of ecomony, longevity and maintenance.

Anyone help?

Concrete is the best but the more expensive.
Fibreglass for economy.

Concrete (gunite) is best if you are in an area where they are popular and builders know how to put them in.

Second choice is vinyl and very very last is fiberglass.

Gunite is the most expensive and requires good care.

Fiberglass is next if you take a preform. It needs medium attention.

Vinyl is cheapest, shrugs off neglect but you will have to replace the liner about every ten years. About $2000

Gunite (concrete) is for longevity. What's another 50,000 or more when you are already building a house.

Love the line about a hole in the ground you throw money into.....boy, you are right!!!

Concrete, there are many options you can stain it colors and add tiles to the top to make it look finished. But it's also the longest lasting that I've seen. Hope this helps.

concrete.
Fiberglass has a life span of about 7 years which could be shorter depending on the chemical levels and the traffic on it.

Just remember. Any pool is just a hole in the ground that you pour money into.
