The Dems run Congress. weren't they going to clean things up? If a spouse is on the pay-role of as a lobbyist for a company wouldn't that be a huge conflict of interest?

"Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) called Vitter and said he would support the proposal with one caveat: It should exempt spouses who are already lobbyists."

You would think so. Truth is, it will never clean up until "we the people" rise up and throw ALL the bums out of Washington and start over.

OMG you are right! ALL the dems are corrupt! This one example shows it!!

*rolls eyes*

"By about 10 p.m., the proposals appeared dead for now after 46 Senate Republicans blocked a vote on a broad ethics and lobbying bill. Fifty Democrats and one Republican, Senator Gordon H. Smith of Oregon, supported going ahead with the vote, but under Senate rules, 65 votes were needed to prevail."

Well they said they would and this is a good start,House Democrats brought their "100-hour" legislative agenda to a successful close Thursday evening with passage of legislation designed to force oil and gas companies to pay more royalties on some offshore leases and end subsidies and tax deductions they have been receiving amid record prices for crude.

The final vote on the bill -- the sixth of six items Democrats had vowed to pass in 100 hours of legislative action -- was 264 to 163, with 36 Republicans crossing the aisle to support the Democrat-sponsored bill.

Oh, now, you can't possibly be young and innocent enough to believe that politicians, especially Democratic politicians, keep their promises! No, honey, you are lucky if they don't end up doing the exact opposite of what they promised. Take the promises for what they are worth, which is about the same as one of those little copper disks in your pocket.

They got elected not because of any merit, but because of public disillusionment with Republicans. It goes back and forth like a pendulum. Neither party has real solutions, only blame for the other party.

Yes it is. You would have to ask Harry Reid in the Senate about this!
