In a cooking gas bottling plant, thousands of cylinders are filled and despatched to the outlets every day. Should there be an inspection from the department of weights and measures, they check by random sampling; taking 5 or 10 cylinders at random and checking the weight or the pressure of the gas in the cylinder. This is random sampling.

A random sampling is a group of people who were not chosen for any specific reason. The researchers just take whoever comes along and asks the questions. It is not a specific group for examples students, smokers, fifty year olds. This type of sampling is easier to conduct although the history of the interviewees is harder to track.

we learned that in statistics a couple of months ago! random sampling means to sample without bias. but is basically impossible! one example would be: wanting to survey 100 high school seniors. random would not be choosing people in your class. you could pick a class by picking a teachers name out of a hat, or assigning numbers to each teacher and using a random number table or generator.

Ok, say you are going to start making ladies' shoes in Canada. So you go to half a dozen cities in Canada and randomly ask women to let you measure their feet. That's random sampling. Then you're going to use those sizes to generalize and presume that all CAnadian women have sizes like theirs.
